Laurie Howard-Malm, Vice President
Laurie Howard-Malm is an “almost” Las Vegas native! Raised in Las Vegas from age three, Laurie comes from a family of dancers and musicians. Her father, Smith Howard, played percussion for many in the Las Vegas Casino/Hotel acts, including the “Rat Pack.” Laurie grew up playing in the orchestra pits as her father practiced for his upcoming shows. Watching Las Vegas grow from a small town to the resort destination of today, Laurie remembers the days when she rode her horses throughout the desert, now filled with populous streets, freeways and developments in the Las Vegas valley. Already owning three horses, Nicky, Blu Moon and Scotty, Laurie and her husband Jimmy recently adopted their first wild mustang, Cochise.
Laurie’s education took her to Westwood, California for a short time while starting a specialist degree at UCLA. She returned to complete her undergraduate and graduate degrees, dedicating 30 years of her life to education and to enriching the community through the Clark County School District. Before retiring as Special Education Facilitator at Chaparral High School, Laurie was awarded Nevada Teacher of the Year and received an award for Outstanding Special Education Program.
An original Las Vegas cowgirl, Laurie’s love for horses drove her passion to be an advocate for Nevada’s wild mustang population. Among the various boards of which she’s been a member through the years, Laurie served as Vice President in such organizations as National Wild Horse Association and Wild Horses 4 Ever. She is currently Vice President of the Paul E. and Helen S. Meyer Foundation White Horse Youth Ranch and is a founding member of America’s Wild Horse Advocates. When she’s not advocating or rescuing horses in the field, Laurie takes the time to speak on behalf of wild mustangs and educate the public about current legislation through many local news sources, including a featured segment on NBC National News with Chip Reid.

Rebecca Mankiller, Secretary
Rebecca Mankiller was born in Oklahoma and after a 25-year stint of staring at cows, line dancing and driving a horse in circles around barrels, she moved to Hawai’i. There, she eeked out an existence as a professional island dweller and novice hula dancer.
In 1998, Rebecca relocated to Las Vegas, where she learned to wear mainland clothes and shoes again, and her career in commercial real estate was born. Since June 2002, Rebecca has worked with Harsch Investment Properties and has headed up the operations and capital revitalization of nearly 3 million square feet of commercial, industrial and retail properties in Southern Nevada and Southern California. She has additionally overseen the operations of 11 million square feet of business owner associations, and has assisted in the development of nearly 1 million square feet of new industrial properties in the Henderson, Nevada area.
Rebecca has served as Secretary on the Board of Directors of the Paul E. & Helen S. Meyer Foundation since January 2004. In January 2006, in full agreement with the vision of healing broken children and horses, Rebecca helped found the White Horse Youth Ranch along with the other Directors of the Paul E. & Helen S. Meyer Foundation.
Her hope in working with the Ranch is that she can serve as a mentor and all-around attention-lavisher on the children who come to the Ranch. Truth be told, she’s also looking forward to sneaking hugs from the horses on the Ranch when the others aren’t looking (so they won’t think she’s completely lost her happy-go-lucky exterior.)
In her spare time, Rebecca has authored ten wildly unsuccessful manuscripts, nurtures a sick obsession with “CSI,” dances hula, fosters her very own elephant through the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and wonders how it is that she got spare time.
