Lauren
Featured "Diamond"

Lauren was born prematurely on September 4, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Lauren’s Eustachian tubes were dysfunctional and did not develop properly causing her to be partially deaf at 6 months of age.  Multiple surgeries to regain hearing left Lauren with speech and language acquisition issues.  She entered Early Childhood, Speech & Language Development to address her language delays.

Lauren has experienced many adversities  in her life having overcome  much through her passion of riding and the love of horses.  Her hardships and difficulties brought her to a place where she knows she belongs, devoting her life to the pursuit of riding and becoming an Olympian for the United States of America.

Meet Lexi, Animal lover, Community Activist, Diamond in the Rough.

What brought you to WHY Ranch?

I heard about WHY Ranch watching Channel 13 where Beth Fisher did a news story on WHY Ranch when they were at Cowboy Trail Rides. My family was going through a transition and I wanted to go somewhere that I could be myself. I already loved horses and WHY Ranch has given me the opportunity to learn how to take care of them and ride. WHY Ranch has helped me gain self esteem, confidence and new friends who care about me.

Unique Pet?

My hamster named Mr. Chuds

What award did you recently receive?

Mayor Carolyn Goodman presented me with the Citizen of the Month Award.  I received a plaque and a street named after me.  Now, I’m beginning my own non-profit to help my community called, “Lexie’s Deeds”

Favorite things to do at WHY Ranch?

One of my favorite horses at WHY Ranch is Ghost, an Arabian , but, I love playing with Popsicle who’s an Appaloosa.  I guess I really like white horses.  When I’m not playing or riding the horses, I love to hold their friendly rooster, Cat.  He’s so cute!  I never knew I could hold a rooster.  Cat got a new friend, Reba, a redheaded hen.  One time, I opened up the door to the chicken coop and found a huge brown egg.

Meet Sara, Horse and dog lover,, Overcoming Speech Delay,
Diamond in the rough.

What brought you to WHY Ranch?

Sara’s mom, Linda says,” I heard about WHY Ranch from Deanna Iniguez.  Sara couldn’t wait to come to WHY Ranch and be able to love on all the horses.  I was speechless when I saw my daughter so excited and talking freely with everyone there and the horses.  I tried to hide my tears… but the miracle was undeniable.  God Answered my Prayers for Sara to be able to open up with others and share her thoughts and feelings.

I didn’t know that WHY Ranch would be exactly what my family needed to heal the hurts of the world.  God Bless WHY Ranch.”

Do you have a pet?

My dog's name is Blackie. I love scratching his belly.

What is your favorite activity?

I like to sing to the horses.  I don’t have just one favorite song, so I sing whatever I think of that day.

Favorite things to do at WHY Ranch

My favorite horse is Melody.  I’m told she’s a quarter horse, but I don’t care.  She’s beautiful and she’s mine.  I love the strip on her face.  She’s friendly and I like brushing her mane.  Itty Bitty Blonde, the one I’m pictured with, is a Palamino.  She’s funny.  She falls asleep when I rub her face.  Lauren (pictured above) is my new friend at WHY Ranch.  She knows exactly how to talk to me so I understand what to do. I like her a lot!

Tell Me About You….

My Brother is a Marine.

I am a Tomboy… I like working with all the horses on the Ranch and wearing jeans.

My Favorite Horse is Braveheart.    Brave is a Percheron, which is a little smaller than a Clydesdale.  No matter where I am on the ranch, he looks for me.  Brave allows me to walk straight up to him when he walks away from others.   He really makes me feel good about myself.  In this picture I am doing groundwork with Brave.

My nickname is Sammy.

Unique Pet?

My Snake, “Bones”.

What is Your Most Embarrassing Moment at WHY Ranch?

One day before our Diamonds session, we were playing a “Team Builder” game  called, “Blind Folded Scavenger Hunt.”  This is where you and a partner look for items around the ranch.  One of the team is blindfolded while the other takes you around.  The one blindfolded has trust the leader guiding them to touch and describe the item.   This was my first time at this game.  I forgot to tell my partner, Janessa, that there was a bookcase in front of her…. Sorry, Janessa!

Horses are my life! Even when it is freezing cold outside, I am still motivated to go out and ride! Thanks to WHY Ranch, I have the opportunity to help express and share my knowledge and love for the horses with others.  I hope that I can help others feel warm inside just by being with hoses like I do!  WHY Ranch always makes me smile inside because of all the kindness they give to others.  It is so nice being around all that happiness that I love putting smiles on other kids faces.

This is a cool statement from Sandra, Abby's mom. "Abby was a diamond and then a Peer Leader.

Abby has voluntarily joined competitive team sports & is practicing! We are sooo proud of her!
Thank you so much to Why ranch for being part of that journey."
