Diamonds in the Rough
Every child in our unique program is seen as a Diamond. Just as the precious stones undergo intense pressure and heat to become polished and highly valuable, our Diamonds in the Rough need some polishing of their own so that they are able to see the potential and worth within themselves. The Diamonds in the Rough program has existed since 2008 in Las Vegas and currently has 25 youth in the program. The Diamonds in the Rough programs are designed to suit the unique needs of each child – whether through the placement in a 1-to-1 format, groups, workshops, clinics or a combination of the many types of programs offered. Each time a child comes to work with the WHY Ranch we focus on team building, mutual respect, boundary awareness and teamwork. In all of our programs, we encourage parental participation throughout the team building activities as well as active observers of the program in action. This exists as a means of providing a bonding opportunity for the child and their parent and give a positive and constructive platform to overcome adverse situations.
The program is free of charge and the only requirement that we ask of our families is that they have an open heart. For consideration into our Diamonds in the Rough programs please complete a PROGRAM APPLICATION FORM. Submission instructions are included in the form. Although no submission deadline exists, we accept completed applications on a first come, first served basis.
One 2 One
The One 2 One model is one of the newest programs offered at the WHY Ranch. This unique experience pairs one child with one horse and one trainer during the entire lesson. The One 2 One model exists as a platform to individually tailor to the needs of children whether that is due to a learning disability, having difficulties in a group setting, or if the child just needs the individual attention found in the One 2 One element of our ranch. The One 2 One model typically starts from the very basics of groundwork including horse varieties, how to properly feed horses and even how boots are made. The wonderful part of One 2 One is that the focus is more intentional towards the individual child and the relationship with his/her horse The One 2 One program can accept a child who can only visit us once or on a regular basis.
